Autumn brings dramatic fall colors: visitors drive in to see Mother Nature's palette, the wildlife and to buy apples, peaches and produce at the many stands along the way.

Families come to spend the day driving in the beautiful Illinois countryside and to enjoy food at the many fine restaurants. In the winter time they come to view the eagles flying above the rivers. Couples come to spend quiet time together. They come to visit the Illinois region known as "Piasa Country" Calhoun, Jersey and Northern Madison Counties and Missouri's delightful and historic St. Charles County. Whether to shop the many antiques stores, have a home-cooked meal, or visit one of the many heritage sites the ferries turn a pleasant country drive into a memorable experience.

In Missouri enjoy St. Charles, St. Peters, Old Monroe and Winfield. In Illinois, experience Alton, Elsah, Grafton, Brussels, Batchtown, Hardin and Kampsville.

Autumn brings sunny days and cool nights - and plenty of fun in both Missouri and Illinois.

Come to he countryside around the Calhoun ferries at Winfield and Golden Eagle. Take a river ride and then look for peaches, apples and produce. September and October is apple-picking time throughout the region. The trees burst into fantastic color in mid-to-late October. It is best to call ahead to learn how the colors are progressing. Make a day of it! Drive the "Great River Road" or the St. Charles County roads. Stop for some country cooking and maybe do some antiquing.
