City of Grafton
One of the oldest places in Jersey County, this river town was once a major fishing
and boat manufacturing center. Many of the landing craft that went ashore on D-Day
were built here and ferried to New Orleans in transit to Europe. At the confluences
of the Illinois and Mississippi, Grafton sits under the bluffs on the Great River
Road. Three wineries call Grafton home, as do flea markets, antique ships, terrific
food and festivals. The historic Ruebel Hotel offers guests a touch of the past. Don't
miss Wild West Weekend and be sure to attend the annual Tow Boat Festival in June.
