City of Godfrey
Godfrey
In 1838, Monticello College was founded here by Benjamin Godfrey, financier and real
estate developer. Today, Lewis & Clark Community College is on the grounds of the
former college and the stunning Gadfrey Chapel is one of the most beautiful churches
in the Midwest. Nearby, visitors discover the Lindbergh Cabin, used by Lucky Lindy
when he refueled his aircraft on the St. Louis to Chicago airmail flight. The Great
Godfrey Maze, a giant cornfield maze, is open in late summer to Halloween every year.
